"We're going to make our living providing solutions to technology-based companies," Hirshland said. "We don't need as many clients, we just need good clients that are loyal. We can provide expansion services or downsizing services. We're helping them put their strategic plans together to figure out what kind of space they need."
But Hirshland said it made more sense for the new firm to represent tenants only, brokering deals for them as well as providing strategic planning for their real estate needs. Starting an independent firm was something his clients suggested, Hirshland said.
"Tech companies need really smart, really focused real estate counseling because times are so difficult," he said.
"It's scary because of the chaotic times," Hirshland said. "Therein lies the opportunity. I think it underscores our commitment to the tech sector of the community. Our clients need us now more than ever. This isn't a fad for us, this is for the long term."
